Meghalaya Seeks Rs 2,270 Crore for CEA-Approved Transmission Overhaul

Regulatory approval has been secured despite unresolved funding under central power development schemes.

Overview

  • The overhaul plan will add 760 MVA of transformation capacity and extend transmission lines by 190 circuit kilometres.
  • It proposes dedicated 132 kV lines to Baghmara and other Bangladesh border towns alongside a new 132 kV substation at Nongpoh.
  • Additional 132 kV infrastructure is slated for South Garo Hills, West Garo Hills and South West Khasi Hills districts.
  • Critical clearances remain pending and financing under the Power System Development Fund and NERPSIP has stalled progress.
  • CEA and NPC leaders have pledged to press the Union Ministry of Power for expedited financial support to enhance grid resilience and cybersecurity.
