Overview

• The Special POCSO Court in East Khasi Hills convicted BSF personnel Kamal Kumar Thapa for a 2013 assault, imposing 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment and a Rs 50,000 fine under Section 6 of the Act.
• Thapa also received concurrent five-year terms under IPC Sections 328 and 366A, with the judge recommending Rs 5 lakh compensation via the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority.
• The FIR in the 2013 case was lodged at Rynjah Police Station by the survivor’s aunt, who reported the child was under 14 at the time.
• A Ri Bhoi Special POCSO court sentenced Mawri Ksing, Sbishon Songthiang and Bron Prang to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for assaults on three children in 2017, plus Rs 20,000 fines for attempted gang rape.
• The Ri Bhoi order added concurrent terms for house trespass, sexual harassment and aggravated sexual assault, after an investigation led by Sub‑Inspector E. Khardewsaw culminated in a chargesheet on October 23, 2017.
