Meghalaya Invites Proposals for Subsidized Off‑Street Parking to Ease Shillong Congestion

Applications are open until September 30 on invest.meghalaya.gov.in.

Overview

  • The Urban Affairs Department has launched a grant-in-aid scheme under the Meghalaya Parking Policy, 2025 to expand organized off-street parking in Shillong.
  • Financial assistance is offered to private landowners, Dorbar Shnongs, NGOs and cooperative societies to develop surface, stacked and automated parking facilities.
  • Support is fixed at Rs 1 lakh per Equivalent Car Space for surface and stacked projects with a minimum capacity of 10 ECS.
  • Automated parking proposals qualify for 75% of the DPR cost or up to Rs 5 lakh per ECS, with a minimum capacity of 20 ECS.
  • Proposals will be screened by a committee, facilities must be used exclusively for commercial parking, and operators may collect fees only at rates notified by the competent authority; officials add the effort aligns with a State Planning Board plan to expand and identify new roads.
