Meghalaya Inaugurates CIAT School and Police Welfare Complex in South Garo Hills

Officials say the site will leverage the district’s tough terrain for advanced training with further upgrades planned.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated the CIAT School and an Integrated Police Welfare Complex at Baghmara on January 20.
  • Leaders said South Garo Hills’ dense forests and difficult terrain create a natural environment for advanced counter-insurgency and counter-terror training for officers from Meghalaya, across India and abroad.
  • The complex features a hospital/dispensary, officers’ and JCO messes, a police welfare training centre, a sports complex and a recreational centre, plus an approach road and an overhead water tank.
  • Some facilities, including the dispensary and the sports complex, remain unfinished and are scheduled for completion in the coming years.
  • The project, conceived by then SP Davis N. R. Marak, was executed from February 2022 to January 2026, and the DGP said the school will serve as a centre of excellence with training led by field-experienced officers.
