Meghalaya Court Hands 20-Year Terms to Three Convicted Under POCSO Act

  • A Special POCSO Court in East Khasi Hills convicted Raj Roy, Ashit Chanda and Prasenjit Das of multiple offences under the POCSO Act and Indian Penal Code for repeated sexual assaults on a 16-year-old in 2013.
  • Special Judge MK Lyngdoh sentenced each man to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment with a ₹50,000 fine under Section 6 of the POCSO Act alongside concurrent terms for additional charges.
  • The court imposed two-year sentences with ₹10,000 fines for offences under Section 12 of the POCSO Act, ten years with ₹20,000 fines under Section 17 and two years with ₹10,000 fines under IPC Section 506.
  • All sentences will run together, and the ruling directs the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority to award ₹3 lakh in compensation to the victim.
