Meghalaya Cabinet to Table Job Reservation Policy Report in February Budget Session
Public release follows Assembly debate under a process the government says will remain under court oversight.
Overview
- The Cabinet approved placing the Expert Committee report on the 1972 State Job Reservation Policy before the Assembly during the Budget Session proposed for February 16–27, pending the Governor’s approval.
- Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said the report is comprehensive and sensitive, and its contents will be disclosed only after it is tabled and discussed in the House.
- Officials have completed a detailed examination of the report, and the government says it is ready for presentation to legislators.
- The government has asked the Chief Secretary to explore legal and administrative options for teachers labelled “tainted” and has sought the High Court’s permission for a fresh review, stating any action will follow court directions.
- Earlier court-led reviews reinstated about 140 teachers, with a few more later cleared, and last year the High Court quashed criminal proceedings in the case as groups such as the VPP and HYC press for disclosure and rehabilitation.
