Meghalaya Cabinet Approves Film Tourism Policy to Open State for Productions

It offers structured subsidies alongside a single-window facilitation cell to streamline film shoots statewide.

  • On July 10 the cabinet published the Film Tourism Policy 2025 and opened applications for subsidies and grants.
  • A dedicated Film Facilitation Cell will coordinate between Tourism, Arts and Culture, Information and Public Relations and other departments.
  • National and international shoots with at least 75% filming in Meghalaya can claim up to Rs 1 crore or 25% of production costs.
  • Local-language films in Khasi, Pnar and Garo qualify for Rs 50 lakh funding once every two years while OTT projects, documentaries and shorts can receive grants.
  • The policy was shaped by feedback from more than 200 stakeholders and aims to boost tourism, cultural expression and local livelihoods.
