Overview

  • The Reserve Bank of India’s July calendar lists July 14 as a mandatory holiday in Meghalaya under the Negotiable Instruments Act, halting branch operations and cheque clearances in Jowai.
  • Behdeinkhlam, whose name means “drive away plague,” is the Pnar community’s most celebrated annual festival held to seek health and a bountiful harvest.
  • Branches outside Meghalaya will remain open on July 14, with the rest of India observing its usual second- and fourth-Saturday and Sunday closures.
  • Additional state-specific bank holidays this month include Uttarakhand’s Harela on July 16, Meghalaya’s U Tirot Singh anniversary on July 17, Tripura’s Ker Puja on July 19 and Sikkim’s Drukpa Tshe-zi on July 28.
  • Customers can continue using ATMs, UPI, internet and mobile banking during all branch shutdowns to plan transactions around in-person closures.
