Meghalaya Approves Urban Warfare Training Hub, CIJW School and New Byrnihat Police Station

Overview

  • The Home (Police) Department notified an Urban Warfare Training Facility at Mawiong to provide realistic, scalable training for urban operations.
  • The UWTF curriculum includes close-quarter battle, multi-storey building clearance, hostage rescue, breaching techniques and integrated urban surveillance.
  • A Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School will be established at Baghmara, South Garo Hills, to train police, commando forces and other special units for forested and remote environments.
  • The government created Byrnihat Police Station in Ri-Bhoi with jurisdiction from Jorabat (Assam) to the north, Umsning Outpost/Sonapur (Assam) to the east, Nongpoh Police Station to the south and Khanapara Police Station to the west.
  • Officials described the approvals as part of a policing modernisation strategy to enhance readiness, reduce risks during operations and improve coordination across urban, jungle and border settings.
