Overview

  • The University of Cambridge–led meta-analysis pooled data from 33 observational studies covering more than 826,000 participants.
  • Top 10% adherence to the DASH diet was linked to a 23% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes, with AHEI at 21% and the Mediterranean diet at 17%.
  • Protective effects were uniform across African, Asian, European and Hispanic populations.
  • Results published on July 30 will be detailed at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes Annual Meeting in Vienna this September.
  • Researchers note that over one-third of participants were of European descent and call for expanded studies in underrepresented populations and additional dietary patterns.
