Medical Examiner Identifies Victim in San Antonio West Side Shooting as Suspect Faces Murder Charge

Records list Alejandro Pacheco, 29, jailed on $350,000 bail in the Sept. 26 West Side apartment case.

Overview

  • John Daniel Cuevas, 35, was identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner, who ruled his death a homicide.
  • Police say an argument in a parking lot at an apartment complex in the 2000 block of South Zarzamora Street preceded the shooting around 1:10 a.m. Friday.
  • After the dispute, investigators report Alejandro Pacheco went to his second-floor unit, where Cuevas knocked before Pacheco allegedly fired through the door, striking him in the abdomen and leg.
  • Officers rendered aid before EMS arrived, and Cuevas was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
  • Pacheco was detained at the scene and is charged with murder; court records also show a previous murder case against him was dismissed for insufficient evidence and later reopened without progress since 2022.
