Medical Episode Suspected in 5-Vehicle Crash Involving Beach Park School Bus

Lake County investigators are examining whether a medical episode led to the morning collision that injured three motorists.

Overview

At approximately 8 a.m. on June 3, a GMC Acadia driven by a 74-year-old Zion man struck the stop arm of a school bus stopped for boarding near Sheridan Road and Michigan Boulevard.
After initial impact, the SUV sideswiped a Ford Focus, then collided with a Chevrolet Colorado and a Ford Flex before coming to rest.
The 74-year-old driver was hospitalized in critical condition and two other drivers suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
No children aboard the school bus were harmed during the series of collisions.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is leading an ongoing inquiry into the cause of the wreck.
