MediaTek Launches Dimensity 8400 Chipset with Advanced AI and Performance Features

The new mid-range processor offers significant performance gains, improved power efficiency, and generative AI capabilities, targeting affordable smartphones.

MediaTek's Dimensity 8400 chipset, launched in China, features an all-big-core design with eight ARM Cortex-A725 cores clocked at 4.32GHz, delivering a 41% improvement in multi-core performance over its predecessor.
The processor integrates the MediaTek NPU 880 and Dimensity Agentic AI Engine, enabling faster generative AI tasks like Stable Diffusion and text generation, along with advanced on-device AI applications.
Built on TSMC's 4nm architecture, the Dimensity 8400 achieves a 44% reduction in peak power consumption, enhancing energy efficiency for extended use in gaming and video playback.
The chip supports up to 320-megapixel camera sensors, 4K video at 60fps, and displays with WQHD resolution and 144Hz refresh rates, catering to high-quality imaging and smooth user experiences.
Smartphone brands Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo are set to adopt the Dimensity 8400, with devices expected to launch in China in early 2025, expanding access to advanced AI features in the mid-range market.
