Medevac Helicopter Crashes Onto Sacramento’s Highway 50, Critically Injuring 3 Crew

Overview

  • The REACH Air Medical Services Airbus H130 went down around 7 p.m. Monday on eastbound Highway 50 near 59th Street shortly after departing UC Davis Medical Center.
  • A pilot, a nurse and a paramedic were taken to area hospitals in critical condition, and officials said there was no patient on board.
  • Roughly 15 bystanders helped first responders lift part of the overturned helicopter to free a trapped crew member, according to Sacramento Fire Capt. Justin Sylvia.
  • Authorities reported no other vehicles were involved and no motorists were injured, though eastbound lanes were closed for hours with major backups.
  • CHP is working with the NTSB and FAA on the crash investigation, with new footage showing the aircraft plummeting to the roadway now part of the evidence being examined.
