"Mean Girls" Musical Remake Trailer Released, Receives Mixed Reactions for Lack of Song Performances

The upcoming film adaptation of the Mean Girls musical faces backlash as fans notice the lack of iconic musical performances in the trailer, which otherwise features nods to the original movie and a new, star-studded cast.

Paramount Pictures' adaptation of the 'Mean Girls' Broadway musical released a new trailer that was met with mixed reactions due to its lack of musical performances. The musical itself is based on the original 2004 film.
The film stars Broadway actress, Reneé Rapp, reprising her role as Regina George. Other notable cast members include Angourie Rice as Cady Heron, Auli'i Cravalho as Janis Ian, and Jaquel Spivey as Damian.
Tina Fey, who wrote both the original film screenplay and the Broadway musical script, also wrote the screenplay for this adaptation. She reprises her role as Ms. Norbury, along with Tim Meadows returning as Principal Duvall.
Apart from a few seconds of dancing, the trailer, oddly, does not highlight that the movie is a musical, causing confusion and criticism from fans on social media.
The film, initially slated for a Paramount+ release, was moved to a theatrical release and is set to premiere on January 12, 2024.
