'Mean Girls' Musical Movie Hits Theaters

A new 'Mean Girls' movie, based on the 2004 film and the Broadway musical, is now playing in theaters, 20 years after the original movie was released.
The latest version stars Reneé Rapp as Regina George and Angourie Rice as Cady Heron, with several other new faces taking on the iconic roles.
The movie has been modernized to include social media, Spotify playlists and cell phones, but remains a near verbatim recreation of the 2004 Mean Girls, with some musical numbers thrown in.
Despite some strong performances, particularly from Reneé Rapp, the film has received mixed reviews, with some critics suggesting that it doesn't quite live up to the original.
The film is directed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr., and written by Tina Fey, who also reprises her role as the math teacher, Ms. Norbury.
