MEA Reports 24,600 Indian Deportations in 2025, Led by Saudi Arabia as U.S. Hits Five-Year High

India has raised concerns with the United States over mass postponements of H‑1B visa interviews for applicants in India.

Overview

  • Official data tabled in Parliament show more than 24,600 Indians were deported from 81 countries in 2025.
  • Saudi Arabia accounted for over 11,000 returns, with common grounds including visa overstays, unauthorized work, labor-rule violations and employer disputes.
  • The United States deported about 3,800 Indians, the highest U.S. total in five years, with most cases processed in Washington, D.C. (3,414) and Houston (234).
  • Experts attribute the U.S. increase to tighter checks under President Donald Trump on visa status, work authorization and overstays.
  • Significant figures were also reported from Myanmar (1,591), Malaysia (1,485), the UAE (1,469), Bahrain (764), Thailand (481) and Cambodia (305), where an expert cited cybercrime recruitment leading to detentions and deportations.
