Overview
- Starting in early March, MDOT will close three ramps: westbound I-696 to southbound I-75, westbound I-696 to northbound I-75, and northbound I-75 to westbound I-696, with closures running into early summer.
- Beginning in early April, the southbound I-75 ramp to westbound I-696 will also close and remain shut through early summer.
- Assigned detours route drivers via state corridors, including M-53 (Van Dyke), M-102 (8 Mile), M-59 and M-10, with specific pairings for each closed ramp.
- Eastbound I-696 remains closed and detoured through 2026 with westbound traffic shifted onto the rebuilt eastbound side; I-75 ramps to eastbound I-696 stay open, while eastbound I-696 ramps to I-75 remain closed.
- The work is part of a roughly $280 million, multi-year effort slated to finish the I-696 rebuild in 2026, followed by major construction between I-75 and Dequindre Road in 2027.
