McIntosh Shatters Second World Record in Three Days at Canadian Trials

The 18-year-old Canadian now holds three long-course world records after eclipsing Katinka Hosszu’s 200m IM time, boosting her status ahead of July’s world championships in Singapore.

Summer Mcintosh broke another world record at the Canadian Swimming Trials on Monday, this time in the 200m individual medley.

Overview

  • On June 9 at the Bell Canadian Swimming Trials in Victoria, McIntosh clocked 2:05.70 in the 200m individual medley, becoming the first woman under 2:06.
  • Two days earlier she reset the 400m freestyle world record with a time of 3:54.18, surpassing Ariarne Titmus’s mark from 2023.
  • McIntosh is now the world record holder in three individual long-course events: the 400m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 400m individual medley.
  • She also broke her own Canadian 800m freestyle record with an 8:05.07 swim, the third-fastest in history and within a second of Katie Ledecky’s world best.
  • McIntosh plans to contest five individual races at the World Championships in Singapore, which begin on July 27.
