McIntosh Seeks Five Golds at Singapore World Championships

Following three world records at Canadian trials, McIntosh will pursue five gold medals at the Singapore worlds prior to joining Bob Bowman’s Texas squad.

On Sunday in Singapore, McIntosh will attempt something that only Phelps, right, has ever managed: winning five individual events at a single world championships

Overview

  • The 18-year-old Canadian will compete in five individual events for the first time at a single long-course World Championships.
  • She enters the meet fresh off June’s Canadian trials in Victoria, where she set world records in the 400m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 400m individual medley.
  • McIntosh will open competition with the 400m freestyle final followed by the 200m individual medley semifinal on day one in Singapore.
  • She is slated for marquee showdowns against Katie Ledecky in both the 400m and 800m freestyle events.
  • After the championships, McIntosh will transition from coach Fred Vergnoux’s Antibes squad to Bob Bowman’s elite Texas training group.
