McIlroy, Fleetwood Debut TaylorMade Qi4D Drivers at Abu Dhabi After USGA Green Light

USGA approval this week cleared TaylorMade’s Qi4D alongside PING’s G440K for on-course testing at Yas Links.

Overview

  • Rory McIlroy replaced his TaylorMade Qi10 with a Qi4D Core and added a 3-wood and 5-wood for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
  • Tommy Fleetwood is gaming the Qi4D LS and moved into a tie for second at 19-under with one round remaining, while McIlroy sits T-12.
  • After Round 1, McIlroy said, “Felt like the driver was good,” as he averaged 334 yards off the tee, hit 78 percent of fairways, and launched a 355-yard drive to the 10th green.
  • The USGA added TaylorMade’s Qi4D lineup (Core, LS, Max) and PING’s G440K to the conforming list on November 3, enabling immediate tour use.
  • PING’s G440K was also put in play in Abu Dhabi by Joe Dean, Jon Perry, and Kristoffer Reitan, while consumer release timing for the new models remains unconfirmed.
