McDonald’s to Close Three CosMc’s Locations While Expanding Smaller Format Concept

The fast-food giant is refining its space-themed beverage chain by closing larger stores and opening two new smaller ones in Texas.

McDonald’s is closing three of its seven CosMc’s locations, all in Texas, as part of a strategic shift toward smaller-format stores.
CosMc’s, launched in December 2023, focuses on specialty beverages and snacks, with a space-themed concept inspired by a nostalgic McDonald’s mascot from the 1980s.
The closures affect larger locations repurposed from traditional McDonald’s restaurants, which the company says are less effective than newly built smaller stores.
Two new smaller-format CosMc’s locations are planned for Texas in 2025, though specific cities have not yet been disclosed.
Customer favorites from the CosMc’s menu include the Island Pick Me Up Punch, Sour Energy Burst, Churro Cold Brew Frappe, Savory Hashbrown Bites, and McPops.
