MCC Opens NEET UG Counselling Round 1 as New Freeze‑and‑Float Rules Go Live

Centralising AIQ admissions with online upgrades and resignations aims to cut repeat travel; missing state seat data in some places could delay local counselling.

Overview

  • Round 1 registration for MCC NEET UG counselling opened on Wednesday, August 5, with candidates able to apply at mcc.nic.in until the August 12 deadline for registration and fee payment.
  • MCC will run four fully online phases — Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and an Online Stray Vacancy Round — and the academic session for admitted students is scheduled to begin on September 8.
  • The new Freeze and Float system lets candidates who want an upgrade choose Float and complete document verification online while Freeze requires physical reporting to confirm admission; MCC also added an online resignation feature to surrender seats through the portal where rules permit.
  • Operational gaps are emerging at the state level: Karnataka’s DME has not submitted its seat matrix to KEA, a developing issue that may delay counselling in the state, while Tamil Nadu has confirmed it will keep its existing state counselling process.
  • The National Medical Commission published a 2026–27 MBBS seat matrix of about 1.36 lakh seats and MCC stressed single online registration, 24x7 helpline support, strict server-time deadlines and clear document uploads to avoid seat cancellation or security-deposit forfeiture.
