Overview
- John McAslan & Partners revealed a nine-storey “floating” office design that retains the trainshed and most Grade II-listed fabric at Liverpool Street station.
- The practice says its scheme could be delivered for about half the £1.2bn cost, on two-thirds of the area, and in roughly half the time of the current proposal.
- Network Rail and ACME’s live application for an 18–19-storey block entails partial demolition to help fund about £500m of station upgrades and increase capacity.
- A JLL review commissioned by Network Rail found the £1.2bn scheme “not technically viable,” while Network Rail says a similar option to McAslan’s was explored and deemed undeliverable.
- The City of London decision has slipped to 2026, campaigners are calling for the process to be paused to consider alternatives, and public responses include 2,125 objections and 1,078 letters of support.
