MCA Asks Maharashtra for MMR Land to Build Residential Women’s Cricket Academy

The plan would centralize training to cut long commutes for Mumbai’s women cricketers.

Overview

  • On Friday, MCA president Ajinkya Naik submitted a formal request to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for a suitable plot within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
  • The proposed residential academy is framed as a center of excellence with turf grounds, indoor practice areas, accommodation, a gym, physiotherapy and sports medicine support, and classrooms.
  • MCA says the residential model would reduce fatigue and logistical hurdles created by players traveling long distances for routine practice.
  • The association has stated it will invest in the project and operate the facility on a not-for-profit basis focused on player welfare and development.
  • At a ceremony at the CM’s residence, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav and staff were felicitated, with Maharashtra players awarded ₹2.25 crore each, and no government decision on a plot or timeline announced.
