MBVV Police Raid Hyderabad Mephedrone Unit, Arrest 12 in Cross-State Probe

Figures for seized drugs and chemicals differ across reports as officials await forensic confirmation.

Overview

  • MBVV/Mira Road police said they dismantled a clandestine mephedrone operation in Cherlapally’s Navodaya Colony, Hyderabad, detaining 12 suspects including a Bangladeshi woman.
  • Police accounts diverge on the haul: Hindustan Times cited 5.79 kg of MD and about 35,500 litres of chemicals, while other outlets reported 32,000 litres valued at roughly Rs 12,000 crore.
  • Commissioner Niket Kaushik said the total value runs into several crore rupees and noted seizures of Rs 23.97 lakh in cash, 27 phones, vehicles, weighing scales and production materials.
  • The raid followed an August 8 arrest in the Mira Road area of a 23-year-old Bangladeshi national with 105 grams of MD, leading to a string of arrests in Maharashtra and then to the Hyderabad unit.
  • Two alleged operators identified by police as Srinivas Vijay Murthy Voleti and Tanaji Pandharinath Patwari were arrested at the site, and investigators are tracing the supply network and financiers across jurisdictions.
