Overview
- Carlos Mazón announced plans to modify the AVL’s founding law and promote a reform of the Statute of Autonomy to set a tighter “perimeter” for the institution and to call it Acadèmia de la Llengua Valenciana.
- PP and Vox do not currently have enough votes to pass a Statute change, adding uncertainty to the scope and timing of the proposed overhaul.
- The 2025 budget cut reduced AVL resources by about 25%, including a 21.7% reduction in personnel costs, a 94.43% drop in operating expenses, and the removal of €102,000 in real investments.
- Operating funds fell from €897,370 in 2024 to €50,000 this year, prompting cancellations such as the IV Premi Carme Miquel and support for Fallas-related activities, along with halved meeting allowances and reduced speaker fees.
- Partnerships and grants to entities like the UPV, Universidad de Alicante, Fundació Bromera, Fundació Escola Valenciana, and Fundació Carles Salvador are being suspended, while a €200,000 pledge from the central government is limited to AVL IT projects and provincial aid has not been finalized.
