Overview
- Mazda signed with Iwakuni City and Yamaguchi Prefecture to build the Mazda Motor Corporation Iwakuni Plant for cylindrical lithium-ion battery module packs.
- Construction is scheduled to begin in November 2025, with operations planned for fiscal year 2027.
- The facility is planned for up to 10 GWh of annual capacity to supply future electrified vehicles.
- Panasonic Energy will supply the cylindrical cells that the plant assembles into packs.
- The site at 3915 Minamishirazaki, Tsuzu covers about 190,000 square meters and marks Mazda’s first new domestic plant since 1992.
