May’s Flower Moon Peaks as Final Micromoon of 2025

The full moon, appearing 6–7% smaller due to its apogee distance of 251,939 miles from Earth, will be visible on Sunday and Monday evenings.

  • The Flower Moon, named for its association with North America’s spring bloom, peaks on May 12, 2025, at 12:56 p.m. ET.
  • This micromoon, the third and final of the year, occurs when the moon is at its farthest point from Earth, appearing smaller and dimmer than usual.
  • At its peak, the moon will be 251,939 miles from Earth, compared to its average distance of 238,855 miles.
  • The moon will rise in the eastern/southeastern sky after sunset and move to its highest point around midnight before setting in the early morning.
