Mayawati Elevates Nephew Akash Anand to BSP National Convenor as Party No. 2

The move marks a pre-election revamp focused on Bihar this year, with Uttar Pradesh targeted in 2027.

Overview

  • Akash Anand’s promotion was confirmed by BSP Uttar Pradesh chief Vishwanath Pal, and he will oversee the party’s organisational machinery nationwide while reporting directly to Mayawati.
  • The BSP expanded its national coordinator team to six—Ramji Gautam, Rajaram, Randhir Singh Beniwal, Lalji Medhankar, Atar Singh Rao and Dharamveer Singh Ashok—who will report to Anand.
  • Vishwanath Pal was retained as Uttar Pradesh president as the party reappointed or named state chiefs across key units including Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Bihar.
  • Anand is slated to launch a Yuva Adhikar Yatra in Bihar from September 10, traversing about 15 districts before rallies by Mayawati, with the BSP planning to contest all seats but prioritising roughly 50.
  • Party leaders highlighted that the coordinator slate is drawn from the Jatav Dalit community, reflecting a push to consolidate the BSP’s traditional voter base.
