May 2026 Opening Set for First GMLR Flyover as Tunneling Prep Ramps Up

BMC reports steady progress, citing 27 of 31 piers built plus TBM assembly ahead of tunnel boring early next year.

Overview

  • The 1.2 km, six-lane flyover from Dindoshi Court to SGNP has 27 of 31 piers erected and 12 of 26 spans completed, with remaining spans due by February 15, 2026.
  • Pier erection, girder installation and deck slab casting are scheduled to finish by April 15, 2026, with approach roads targeted for January 31 (Dindoshi side) and April 30, 2026 (SGNP side).
  • One Japan-imported TBM has been deployed at Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari and a second is expected by December 2025, with shaft works underway and boring slated to start early next year.
  • The twin tunnels under SGNP total 6.65 km at depths of 20–160 meters, include modern safety and ventilation systems, and are targeted for completion in 2028 before full-corridor opening in 2029.
  • BMC leadership ordered faster permissions and land acquisition as some Mulund-side works face disruptions linked to rehabilitation and property clearance.
