Max Verstappen to Complete Community Service in Rwanda for Swearing Incident

The F1 champion will work with junior drivers in Kigali as part of a grassroots motorsport program organized by the Rwanda Automobile Club.

  • Max Verstappen received a community service penalty from the FIA for using inappropriate language during a press conference at the Singapore Grand Prix in September.
  • The Dutch driver will fulfill the penalty while attending the FIA's annual awards ceremony in Kigali, Rwanda, where he will also collect his fourth consecutive F1 World Championship trophy.
  • As part of the grassroots development program, Verstappen will work with junior drivers and introduce them to motorsports using an FIA Affordable Cross Car built locally in Rwanda.
  • This is not Verstappen's first public interest penalty; in 2018, he was required to observe stewards at a Formula E race after a physical altercation with another driver.
  • The penalty reflects the FIA's ongoing efforts to promote appropriate conduct and language use among drivers in professional motorsport.
