Nicknamed the 'Feuerwehrmann der ARD,' Schautzer was celebrated for his charm, humor, and reliability in delivering successful programming.
After leaving television, he transitioned to theater, performing in various productions across Germany until 2021.
He openly criticized modern television's focus on youth and lack of originality, reflecting on the industry's changes in his later years.
Schautzer's death follows the loss of his wife, Gundel, in 2021, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
