Max Homa carded a 6-under 66 in the first round of the 2024 Nedbank Golf Challenge, securing a one-shot lead over South African Ockie Strydom.
Homa’s round featured eight birdies, including three consecutive birdies to open his round, and two bogeys on the back nine due to wind challenges and a yardage miscalculation.
The defending champion is seeking to become the eighth player to defend this title and the first American to do so since 2006.
Homa has struggled throughout 2024, with no professional wins since last year’s Nedbank triumph, making this strong start particularly significant for his confidence and preparation for next season.
Strydom, in second place, shot a 5-under 67, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 14th hole, while four players, including Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal, are tied for third at 3-under.
