Maïwenn Fined for Assaulting French Journalist at Cannes Film Festival

The director did not deny the allegations and cited 'moral rape' after her testimony about ex-husband Luc Besson was published.

French actress and filmmaker Maïwenn has been fined $435 for spitting on French journalist Edwy Plenel during last year's Cannes Film Festival.
The incident occurred at a restaurant where Maïwenn allegedly grabbed Plenel by the hair and spit in his face.
Maïwenn was in Cannes to promote her film Jeanne du Barry, which starred herself and Johnny Depp.
Maïwenn did not deny the spitting allegations and stated she felt a 'moral rape' after Mediapart, where Plenel is editor-in-chief, published her testimony about her relationship with ex-husband Luc Besson.
Maïwenn was also ordered to pay $1 in moral damages to Plenel and $1,632 in moral damages to Mediapart.
