Maverick Vinales Withdraws From Indonesian GP To Focus On Shoulder Recovery

Lingering shoulder damage has curtailed his strength and mobility, prompting a post-qualifying decision to focus on recovery.

Overview

  • Tech3 KTM announced the withdrawal after Saturday morning qualifying at Mandalika, where Vinales qualified last and was 1.376 seconds off the fastest time.
  • The team said he will concentrate on his left-shoulder injury, with no decision yet on his participation in the rest of the season.
  • Vinales fractured and dislocated his left shoulder in a July highside at the German GP and has struggled since his return, with a best finish of 13th in three grands prix.
  • On Friday he reported pain, reduced strength and mobility, and a loss of bike feedback, though he noted Mandalika’s higher grip lessened KTM’s recurring rear-end chatter compared to Motegi.
  • With Vinales sidelined, KTM’s entries are Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta for the factory team and Enea Bastianini for Tech3, with Acosta qualifying fifth, Binder 15th, and Bastianini 17th.
