Overview

  • Matthew Richtman, a former All-American from Montana State, claimed victory at the 40th Los Angeles Marathon with a time of 2:07:56, breaking a 31-year drought for American male winners.
  • Richtman made a decisive move at the halfway mark, pulling away from the pack and securing a nearly three-minute lead over second-place finisher Athanas Kioko of Kenya.
  • The women's race was won by Ethiopia's Tejinesh Gebisa Tulu in 2:30:16, with Savannah Berry of the U.S. finishing third after leading much of the race.
  • This win marks only Richtman’s second marathon, following his debut at the Twin Cities Marathon last year where he placed fourth with a time of 2:10:47.
  • The event also served as a valuable experience for Olympic hopefuls like Richtman and Berry, who are eyeing the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Games.
