Matthew Perry's cause of death remains uncertain as officials await the results of a toxicology report. The actor's death certificate, released by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, states that his cause of death is 'deferred'.
Perry was found in his hot tub at his home in Pacific Palisades on October 28. No foul play is suspected, and no illegal drugs were reportedly found at the scene.
Former Chief Medical Examiner of New York City, Dr. Michael Baden, suggests that the toxicology report could already be complete, as they have 'pretty much 99% of what they're going to get at this point as far as information goes'.
Perry's sobriety has been a topic of discussion following his death. Friends co-creator, Marta Kauffman, confirmed that Perry was sober at the time of his death. Perry's friend, model Athenna Crosby, also insisted that he was '100 percent sober' at the time of his death.
Perry had previously been open about his struggles with addiction and the medical complications that resulted from it. He detailed a medical emergency related to his addiction in his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.
