Matt Wright Faces Three Counts of Perverting the Course of Justice as Trial Is Deferred

Justice Alan Blow moved the hearing to July 28 under a suppression order that blocks disclosure of why the original perverting the course of justice charge was split into three counts.

Outback Wrangler host Matt Wright has been hit with two fresh charges.

Overview

  • At a Darwin pre-trial hearing, the Director of Public Prosecutions filed an amended indictment that split Wright’s single perverting the course of justice charge into three separate counts.
  • The five-week proceeding was pushed back from an initial July 7 start to July 28 in the Northern Territory Supreme Court.
  • The charges stem from his alleged actions after a February 2022 helicopter crash during a crocodile egg collecting mission in West Arnhem Land that killed co-star Chris Wilson and left pilot Sebastian Robinson paraplegic.
  • The Robinson R44 involved was owned and operated by Wright’s company, Helibrook, at the time of the expedition.
  • Wright has not yet entered a plea and has indicated he intends to contest the amended indictment when the trial begins.
