Overview
- Augusta National and The R&A, which announced the decision Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, will again invite winners of six designated national opens into the 2027 Masters.
- The six tournaments that will grant Masters invitations are the Scottish Open, Spanish Open, Japan Open, Hong Kong Open, Australian Open and South African Open.
- The R&A will continue to use its Open Qualifying Series as the gateway into The Open and is expected to publish the full 2027 OQS schedule and exemption categories imminently.
- The aligned policy creates tour-agnostic access to both majors, giving players from different circuits—including those on LIV Golf—another route to qualify by winning a designated national championship.
- The move builds on a pathway first used for the 2026 majors and has already sent players such as Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, Chris Gotterup, Marco Penge, Naoyuki Kataoka, Tom McKibbin and Casey Jarvis to Augusta, while also raising the profile and stakes of national opens worldwide.
