Mastercard Settlement Cleared for Payouts to UK Consumers

Innsworth’s acceptance of £62.6m removed the last legal obstacle and lets Walter Merricks launch a national claims campaign before payments due in the first half of 2027.

Overview

  • All remaining legal challenges have been resolved, with the litigation funder Innsworth discontinuing arbitration and accepting £62.6m plus interest from the settlement proceeds.
  • The Competition Appeal Tribunal’s distribution order stands, so at least £100m has been ringfenced for eligible consumers under the c.£200m settlement.
  • Claimants who register will share the £100m equally, with individual payments expected to be no less than £45 and likely in the £45–£70 range depending on how many people claim.
  • Merricks will run a nationwide publicity campaign and open a six‑month registration window before payments, which are planned for the first half of 2027, with options for bank transfer or emailed gift voucher and a choice to donate payment to charity.
  • Any unpaid consumer money will go to the Access to Justice Foundation and the settlement structure repays Innsworth’s costs and authorises a limited profit return for the funder as set by the tribunal.
