Mastercard Launches Stablecoin Security to Score Payments Before On‑Chain Settlement

The platform-agnostic API gives banks a pre-settlement risk score so they can spot fraud, scams or sanctions exposure before stablecoins move on public blockchains.

Overview

  • Mastercard announced the product Monday at the Money20/20 conference in Las Vegas and said Stablecoin Security will begin rolling out in North America with global commercial availability planned for 2027.
  • The service combines Mastercard’s payment intelligence with blockchain analytics to examine transaction context, origin, intermediary activity and restricted‑party exposure and then generate a risk score before a payment settles on‑chain.
  • Stablecoin Security is delivered as a platform-agnostic API that plugs into banks’ existing fraud, compliance and case‑management systems so institutions do not need to build new crypto operating environments.
  • Borderless.xyz and Keyrails are the initial program partners bringing the tool into live payment flows, targeting cross‑border and B2B supplier payments where multi‑step stablecoin transfers complicate monitoring.
  • Mastercard said the product builds on its Crypto Secure and Crypto Credential tools and will expand through BVNK and the Global Money Platform, though pricing, supported blockchains and a full partner and market schedule have not been disclosed.
