Massive Russian Night Raid Batters Kyiv as Ukraine Answers With Strikes Inside Russia

The scale and targets of the raid renewed urgent calls for more air-defense systems.

Overview

  • Ukraine reported roughly 430 drones and about 18–19 missiles in the overnight attack, with at least six people killed in Kyiv and dozens wounded as residential blocks, energy sites and the Azerbaijani embassy sustained damage.
  • Air defenses claimed 419 intercepts but said 23 warheads hit targets in 13 localities, triggering blackouts and heating outages across parts of the capital and other regions.
  • Kyiv said it struck Russian energy and port infrastructure, including Novorossiysk and a Saratov refinery, and President Volodymyr Zelensky cited the use of domestically made Long Neptune long‑range missiles.
  • Russia’s state nuclear agency Rosatom accused Ukraine of targeting the Novovoronezh nuclear plant with drones and said some units briefly reduced output before operations normalized.
  • Zelensky will visit Paris and Madrid next week to press partners after the raids, as European officials voiced support and discussed additional air-defense and assistance measures.
