Massive Methamphetamine Seizure at U.S.-Mexico Border

Over 350 pounds of meth discovered in pickup truck, marking a significant increase in seizures.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized 354 pounds of methamphetamine from a pickup truck crossing the U.S.-Mexico border at the Paso Del Norte international crossing.
The drugs were discovered in 161 foil-wrapped bundles hidden beneath the truck bed liner of a Dodge Ram driven by a 31-year-old Mexican woman.
The woman was taken into custody and turned over to the Texas Department of Public Safety, facing charges related to the smuggling attempt.
CBP officers used a variety of tools, including a drug-sniffing dog and a Z-Portal X-ray scan, to identify and stop the smuggling attempt.
This seizure represents a significant increase in methamphetamine seizures at the U.S.-Mexico border, with 802 pounds seized in the El Paso area in the 2021 fiscal year, a 133% increase compared to previous years.
