Massive Fire Destroys Major Paris Recycling Plant

Over 200 firefighters contained the blaze at the Syctom facility, which serves nearly one million residents, with no injuries reported.

The fire broke out in the basement of the Syctom recycling plant in northern Paris on Monday evening, spreading rapidly and completely gutting the facility.
More than 200 firefighters and 60 fire trucks were deployed to control the blaze, which sent thick black smoke over the city and prompted road closures.
All personnel at the plant were safely evacuated, and no injuries have been reported, according to local authorities.
Officials worked to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures, including the adjacent Paris courthouse, and advised residents to remain indoors due to concerns about toxic fumes.
The Syctom plant, inaugurated in 2019, was a critical component of Paris's waste management system, handling household waste for nearly one million residents.
