Des milliers d’hectares sont partis en fumée mardi soir, dans l’Aude, ravagés par un incendie «hors norme».

Overview

  • Since igniting near Ribaute on August 5, the blaze has scorched over 11,000 hectares across 15 communes and remains uncontained as of the morning of August 6.
  • Nearly 1,820 firefighters are on the front lines supported by nine Canadair, five Dash aircraft and two water-bombing helicopters—the maximum national aerial capacity.
  • The provisional human toll includes one civilian fatality, one person missing and nine injuries, among them seven firefighters and a civilian in critical condition.
  • Authorities have issued evacuation orders for campgrounds and villages, instructed residents to shelter in place and closed the A9 motorway along with multiple departmental roads.
  • Météo-France had placed the Aude department on red fire alert due to temperatures above 32 °C, humidity below 25 % and tramontane winds gusting up to 70 km/h.
