Overview

  • On June 19, the Conselleria de Medio Ambiente found fecal contamination in water samples at more than twice the permitted levels.
  • Officials ordered the beach closed at 1:30 a.m. on June 20 and installed fencing and warning signs to bar access.
  • This shutdown comes 10 days after a similar wastewater incident forced closures in seven Safor region municipalities.
  • Mayor Robert Margaix indicated that overloaded local wastewater treatment plants could be responsible but investigations continue.
  • Bathing will remain prohibited until new analyses by the Servicio de Calidad de Aguas confirm water safety and set a reopening date.
