Massachusetts Woman Pleads Guilty in Trafficking of Stolen Human Remains Tied to Harvard Case

The plea stems from a federal probe into Harvard Medical School morgue thefts, with sentencing to come.

Overview

  • Prosecutors say Katrina Maclean, 46, admitted buying remains she knew were stolen from Harvard Medical School from 2018 to 2022 and transporting them from Massachusetts to Pennsylvania.
  • Maclean entered her plea in U.S. District Court in the Middle District of Pennsylvania before Chief Judge Matthew W. Brann to interstate transport of stolen human remains.
  • Cedric Lodge, the former Harvard morgue manager, stole organs and other parts and, with his wife Denise, sold them to Maclean and others through arrangements made by phone and social media.
  • Investigators seized numerous body parts and labeled materials during a March 7, 2023 search of Maclean’s residence; her “Kat’s Creepy Creations” shop had incorporated human remains.
  • The FBI, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and East Pennsboro Township Police led the case; several co-defendants have pleaded guilty, with sentences including 15 months for Matthew Lampi, 18 months for Angelo Pereyra, and 15 years for Candace Chapman-Scott, while others await sentencing.
