Massachusetts Governor Outlines 2024 Goals in State of the Commonwealth Address

Healey Focuses on Housing, Infrastructure, Education, and Mental Health in Address

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey outlined her goals for 2024 in her State of the Commonwealth address, with a focus on lowering housing costs, improving infrastructure, and strengthening schools.
Healey acknowledged the state's mixed economic picture, with high prices making it difficult for many families to make ends meet, despite a strong economy with more jobs than ever before and all-time low unemployment.
The governor is pushing a $4 billion housing plan to tackle the lack of affordable housing in the state, which she described as the biggest challenge threatening progress on all other fronts.
Healey also unveiled an initiative aimed at giving parents across Massachusetts, particularly in the state’s former industrial “Gateway Cities,” better access to child care and early education.
The governor announced a new goal for early education in Massachusetts: universal pre-K available for every 4-year-old in the state, and her budget proposal will also call for $10 million to ensure the most vulnerable young people in the state have access to mental health care.
