Overview
- Overnight on 26–27 September, Ukrainian officials said Russia launched about 170–173 attack drones and Ukraine’s air defenses shot down most of them, reporting roughly 134–147 interceptions.
- Russia’s Defense Ministry countered that Russian air defenses destroyed 645 Ukrainian drones over several Russian regions and occupied Crimea during the same period, a tally that cannot be independently verified.
- The strikes and falling drone debris caused civilian deaths, injuries and fires across Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Sumy and Kharkiv, and damaged homes, markets, warehouses and other civilian sites.
- Kyiv reported retaliatory strikes inside Russia, including hits on an oil refinery in Krasnodar and a plant in Rostov, while Moscow said Ukrainian attacks killed civilians in Krasnodar and Belgorod.
- Both sides said they hit communications and logistics targets — including data centers and a Novaya Pochta hub — a shift toward degrading command, transport and resupply that raises risks to civilians and deepens cross‑border escalation.
